Miller, Raymond "Red" K. (January 16, 1922 - October 2, 2011)
Raymond "Red" K. Miller, age 89, of Unity, died unexpectedly Sunday, October 2, 2011, in the emergency room of St Joseph’s Hospital.
Ray was born January 16, 1922, in Clark County, the son of Fred and
Augusta (Monte) Miller.
He graduated from Colby High School in the class of 1939.
On October 11, 1944, Ray was united in marriage to Jeanette Luther
at Trinity Lutheran Church in Loyal.
Ray and Jeanette operated a dairy farm in the town of Colby. Ray
pioneered bear hunts with hounds in Wisconsin and has been a
licensed hunting guide since 1959. He guided hunts for bear, bobcat
and coyote; all hunts were with his hounds.
Ray was the first man through the Hi-Way 29 by-pass near Owen
because he owned and operated the equipment that brushed out the
route for that hi-way.
Besides hunting and fishing, Ray enjoyed spending time at his lodge
in Clam Lake.
Mr. Miller was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
Ray is lovingly survived by his wife, Jeanette Miller, Unity; son,
Ronald (Mary) Miller, Unity; daughters, Kaye (Larry) Jeske, Colby,
Dawn (William) Ehlert, Thorp and Dr. Debra (Matt) Gray, Louisville,
Tenn. Eight grandchildren, Shannon (Chris) Maurina, Jackie (Steve)
Giles, Michael (Robin) Jeske, Brian (Kim) Jeske, Mark (Heather)
Jeske, Thomas (Kara) Jeske, Abraham and Anna Ehlert; and 12
great-grandchildren further survive Ray.
In addition to his parents, sisters Adeline, Lucille, Isabelle and
Lorraine preceded Ray in death.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, October 6, 2011, at
Trinity Lutheran Church in Unity. The Rev. Rebekah Tarras will
officiate. Burial will be in St John’s Lutheran Cemetery in
the town of Unity. Visitation will be held from 9-11 a.m. Thursday
at the Church. The Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home is assisting the
family with arrangements.
