Smigaj, Mary (21 NOV 1872 - 1 SEP 1958)
Mrs. Mary Smigaj, 85, passed away at the Havenet Rest Home at Owen (Clark Co.), Wis., on Sept. 1st, 1958, following an illness of long duration. She had been living at the home for the past four years.
Mary Grubasz was born in Poznan, Poland on Nov. 21, 1872. She came to America at the age of 17 years and on Oct. 5, 1891 was united in marriage to Stephen Smigaj at Joliet, Ill., where they resided for 18 years. Then they moved to Manfred, N.D., where they spent five years before coming to Thorp (Clark Co.) and locating on a farm with their family in the Town of Reseburg. They came to the village of Thorp in 1921, Mr. Smigaj passing away July 8, 1934.
Mrs. Smigaj is survived by three sons, Stanley and Roman of Thorp, and Max at 23 48th Ave. Bellwood, Ill., one daughter, Theresa, Mrs. Frank Zukowski of 3317 W. Beach Ave., Chicago, eleven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for the deceased were conducted by the Rev. Cecil Ward at 2:00 o’clock, Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 3rd at the Thorp funeral Home Chapel, interment taking place in the East Thorp Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Chester Johnson, Wm. Wolf, Robert Herman, Joe Kunesch, Anton Gulczynski, and Wm. Klouda.
