To pay up a newspaper subscription when it has expired is something like throwing the money into a well.  For what under the sun does an editor want with money?  To publish a paper is an act of charity, not a money making proposition, even if he does shiver a little on these cold days for want of fuel.  It is good for his health, the continual motion keeps his blood in circulation and make him look pleasant, therefore keep the dough secure in your own pockets and thereby avoid all danger of him getting important or learn bad habits.  If necessity demands, abuse him till he gets tired of his existence and always add a few pet names for good measure.  Keep him constantly under control, as he cannot defend himself for the great reason that he would lose a few subscribers and thereby make matters worse.

You may talk about the high mountains, the great canyon of Colorado, the broad rivers and deep lakes, but Ed Riedel says when a calf at birth is two inches taller than its mother, that is something to talk about.

Speak not evil of anyone when he is absent, but strive to keep alive that little spark of celestial fire called conscience.
