Gosse, Melvin L. (June 14, 1922 - October 21, 2011)
Melvin L. Gosse, age 89, of Colby, passed away Friday, October 21, 2011 at home with his family by his side.
A memorial service was held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 26, 2011,
at Christ Lutheran Church in Abbotsford. Rev. Dr. Gary Paul
officiated. A visitation was held from 9 a.m. until the time of the
service at the church. Burial followed at St. Paul’s North
Green Grove Cemetery.
Melvin was born June 14, 1922, in Rural Colby to Louis and Ida
(Lube) Gosse.
He received his education at the Cloverdale Country School. Melvin proudly served his country in the Navy during WWII. Melvin and Betty Krueger were united in marriage on August 17, 1946, in Colby.
Melvin and Betty raised their family on their farm in the Town of Green Grove until 1978. They moved to Withee for 15 years until they moved to Colby in 1993. Melvin worked for Foremost Foods in Owen as a boiler and machine operator for 37 years until his retirement in 1984.
He enjoyed the outdoors, small game hunting, fishing, and camping.
Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family.
Melvin is survived by his children, Robert (Sandi) Gosse of
Abbotsford, Mike (Sue) Gosse of Abbotsford, Peggy (Mark) Winchester
of Richland Center, Bill (Luanne) Gosse of Unity, Brenda (Dean)
Wiese of Abbotsford, Barb (Dan) Jorgensen of New Baden, Ill.,
Theresa (Scott) Stai of Brule.
He is further survived by 16 grandchildren; one step grandchild; seven great grandchildren; seven step-great grandchildren; his brother, Herman Gosse of Colby; and his sisters, Harriet Laabs of Colby, Marion Krueger of Colby, and Dorothy Rodriguez of Durham, NC.
Melvin is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Betty; his
sisters, Anita Schuh and Viola Ewert.
In lieu of flowers a memorial will be established in Melvin’s
name for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
The Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home of Abbotsford is assisting the
family with arrangements.
