Hantke, Oscar (27 March 1883 - 20 June 1963)
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon from the Georgas Funeral home in Neillsville for Oscar Hantke, 80, of Ironwood, Mich., who died last Thursday in Ironwood. The Rev. Lloyd Mauer of the Methodist Church officiated and burial was made in the Town of Grant Cemetery.
Mr. Hantke was born March 27, 1883, in the Town of Grant, the son of the late Ernest and Amelia (Thrune) Hantke. As a young man he worked in the lumber industry and left this area over 60 years ago for Michigan.
For the last 10 years he had been night clerk in an Ironwood hotel.
He was a veteran of World War I and served as patrol officer at Dupont Munitions in Barksdale.
He is survived by a sister, Mrs. Emil (Minnie) Krueger of Milwaukee, and several nieces and nephews. Three brothers, Louie, Otto and Ernest, and three sisters, Mrs. Robert (Pauline) Kurth, Mrs. Clemence (Elizabeth) Kuechenmeister and Mrs. Sam (Anna) Cook, preceded him in death.
Pallbearers were: Dale, Glenn and Floyd Short, Earl Magnuson, Charles Slocumb and Kenneth Klapper.
Wilfred Galstad, accompanied by Kathleen Galstad, sang, "Lead, Kindly Light," and "In the Sweet Bye and Bye".
People who attended the funeral from out-of-town were: Mrs. Emil (Minnie) Krueger, Milwaukee; Miss Marian McCarthy, Ironwood, Mich.; Mr. and Mrs. Walter Klapper and Kenneth, Green Bay; Miss Shirley Magnuson, Minneapolis, Minn.; Mrs. Ira Slocumb, Menomonie; Dr. Charles Slocumb, Madison; and Mrs. Erlin Quinn, Cumberland.
