Walsdorf, Louis P. (12 DEC 1887 - 4 MAY 1959)

 

Last rites for Louis P. Walsdorf were held at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in the city Saturday morning, May 9th, with the requiem Mass, celebrated at 9:30 o’clock by the Rev. Herbert Hoffman.

 

Mr. Walsdorf, 71, retired insurance agent, died suddenly of a heart attack at his home here Monday evening, May 4th, 1959.  He had been confined to the house for about a week with arthritis.

 

Louis P. Walsdorf was born in Thorp (Clark Co., Wis.) on Dec. 12, 1887.  He attended the local schools and after graduation from Thorp High School taught in the rural districts in this vicinity for several years.

 

On Oct. 17, 1911 hew as united in marriage to Mayo E. Roth who passed away in April 1935.

 

Early in his career he spent some time in Minneapolis where he was employed and learned the trade of tinsmith, and upon returning to Thorp he worked in the Herzberg Hardware Store and later became a partner in the hardware business with O.E. Johnson.  Upon selling his interest in the store he went into the business of selling insurance for several reliable companies and shared the office with D.D. Stookey, real estate.  He continued the insurance business until his retirement and sale of his interests to Harry Meske two years ago.

 

He became associated with the Thorp Finance Corp. as an auction clerk while the firm was still young and also continued in that capacity until two years ago.

 

He was noted for his interest in civic affairs and was an excellent musician.  He served as village trustee, village treasurer, military draft board member and other important local offices.

 

Surviving him are one son, Stuart Walsdorf of Dallas, Texas; one daughter Ellen, Mrs. Victor Verner of Thorp; one brother, Joseph Walsdorf of Bradenton, Fla.; one sister, Edith, Mrs. Richard Brunner of Thorp, and one grandson, Louis T. Walsdorf of Dallas.

 

He was laid to rest in St. Bernard’s Cemetery.  Pallbearers were D.D. Stookey, Emil Kostner, C.C. Guell, F.J. Conway, Ross Lawrence and Harry Meske.
