Tomkowiak, Magdalene (18 May 1881 - 4 May 1959)
Mrs. Magdalene Tomkowiak, 78, passed away Monday, May 4, 1959 at the home of her son, Peter in the Town of Withee (Clark Co., Wis.), after a short illness.
The deceased was born in Poland on May 18, 1881. She spent her girlhood there and was united in marriage to Martin Tomkowiak there on July 8, 1900.
In June 1903 they came to America and resided in the rural area of Stanley before coming to Thorp two years later and locating on a farm in the Town of Withee. Upon retirement of her husband and herself from farming they moved to Thorp city. Mr. Tomkowiak passed away Dec. 26, 1958.
She is survived by four sons, John of Milwaukee, Frank and Peter of Thorp and Paul of Owen; one daughter, Celia, Mrs. John Wargolet of West Allis; one sister, Mrs. Mike Bartkowiak of Stanley, twenty grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for the deceased were held at St. Hedwig’s Church here at ten o’clock Wednesday morning, May 6, Rev. Francis Piekarski officiating and interment following in St. Hedwig’s Parish Cemetery. Pallbearers were Florian Tomkowiak, Milwaukee, Erwin Tomkowiak, Loyal, Edward Tomkowiak, Thorp, Marvin Michalski, Marshfield, Lawrence Suda, Greenwood and Milton Ryba, Boyd.
