Janet Lee (Needham)
Niemi, 75, of Owen, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2011, in the
Palliative Care Unit at Ministry Saint Josephs Hospital in
Marshfield.
Jan was a mother to many, having fostered more than 30 children
during her lifetime. She was happiest when surrounded by her family
and her grandchildren. She was an avid reader and loved playing
cards, winning at bingo and spending time with her dachshund,
Peanut.
Jan was born Dec. 11, 1935, in Marshfield to Walter and Gertrude
Needham. She graduated from Owen High School in Owen in 1953 and
married Richard Niemi. She divorced and lived the rest of her life
in Owen.
Her heart was so big, she adopted nine children. She was loved very
much and will be deeply missed.
She is survived by her brother, Richard Needham, Loyal; and
children, Janet Faye (Larry) Troiber, Nelson (Ingrid) Niemi,
Richard (Carol) Niemi, Terri (Dan) Kryzer, Beth (Dave) Brewster,
Cindy (Corey) Hanson, and Greg Niemi; grandchildren, BreeAnn, Adam,
Kaylee, Jason, Kelly, Patrick, Jenny, Josh, Corissa, Cody, Jeremy,
Sawyer, Peyton and Taylor; her beloved dog, Peanut; and nieces,
nephews, great-grandchildren and foster children.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Gertrude
(Davey) Needham; son, Brian Lee; and son, Jon.
A memorial service will be held at noon on Saturday, Nov. 26 with
visitation from 10 a.m. until noon at Emmanuel Lutheran Church,
town of Longwood; with interment immediately following at Emmanuel
Lutheran Church Cemetery.
A light lunch will be held at the church parish hall.
In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to the
family.
