The first month of the year has gone. The good and bad, cold and warm days wont come back, but the days are growing longer and the sun is getting brighter and warmer.
The meeting of the organized Chili State Bank was held Tuesday. A set of by-laws was adopted and the following were elected directors for the ensuing year: W. R. Happe, E. R. Behringer, W. Albrecht, John P. Kintzele, P. N. Christensen, L. A. Reichert and Anton Hogenson. The selection of the building site was left to the directors and building committee. It was voted to build a one story solid brick building for the bank. The meeting was a quiet and interesting one.
Now is a good time for farmers to select their seed grain and clean it to have it ready for seeding time. That time will come sooner than some are thinking. There is a lot of plowing to be done this spring and there will be no time for that work of cleaning the seed.
Degener has a few cream separators to sell that are good and very reasonable in price. He also sells a fanning mill with or without sacker that hardly has its equal. The No. 1 Winner. Come and inspect it.
One day one of our friends somewhere south of here had a little trouble with his pump. While looking after the repairing of the pump the lower part of same slipped out of his grasp and fell down to the bottom of the well 3 or 4 feet below the surface of the water. There was nothing else to do but to go after the pipe. So to strip partways and go down the well was but a time of a minute. After locating the missing pipe he had to go into the cold water and fish out the offending iron. The way he ran for the house and get to warmer quarters was not slow. He must have beat Clark at least 15 seconds and made in record breaking time of 2:25.
Mrs. Julius Tragsdorf, Mrs. Aug. Schoengarth and Mrs. Frank Hemp and son Walter visited with Mr. and Mrs. A. Degener, Wednesday.
August Dankemyer spent last Saturday evening at Granton.
