Supervisor Henry Johnson returned Saturday evening from Neillsville
having finished his work on the county board. The new office of
highway commissioner was created and Harry Hewett elected to fill
it. A system of county roads was mapped out and $10,000 raised by
the board to build and maintain the roads. The commissioner’s
salary of $1,000 was also raised. The main road north and south and
the Eaton-Warner town line road through this city are part of the
county system. W.C. Thoma of Weston was elected to succeed Ole
Samuelson as supervisor of the assessments. The business that
interests Greenwood most was the securing, largely by efforts of
Supervisor Johnson, of over $2,000 from the county bridge fund to
help pay for the improvements on the river bridge. Last year the
county board allowed $1,500 for this work and it was only through
persistent and skillful work by Mr. Johnson that any more was
allowed by the board.
