Lemke, Vera H. (19 OCT 1924 - 25 NOV 2011)
Vera H. Lemke, 87, of
Marshfield, formerly of Loyal, died at the Marshfield Care Center
on Friday, Nov. 18, 2011. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m.
on Friday, Nov. 25, 2011, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Loyal. The
Rev. Daniel Zimmerman will officiate and burial will follow in
Hillside Cemetery in Marshfield.
Pallbearers will be Ron Riedel, Scott Lokken, Eric Elmhorst, Scott
Elmhorst, Roger Kadolph and Shane Vaughn. Visitation will be held
at the church on Friday, from 10 a.m. until time of
service.
Vera Harriet Elmhorst was born on Oct. 19, 1924, in the town of
Fremont, Clark County, the daughter of Henry and Martha (Desens)
Elmhorst. She grew up on the family farm and received her education
at Franklin Grade School, Evangelical Lutheran Parochial School and
graduated from Granton High School in 1942. After completing her
education, Vera moved to Milwaukee and worked at Cutler Hammer for
a short time. She moved back to Marshfield and was employed at
Macson Photo.
Vera was united in marriage to Harold C. Lemke on March 23, 1946,
at the Granton Evangelical Lutheran Church parsonage. They
purchased her husband's family farm near Loyal, and Vera farmed
with her husband for 33 years, retiring in 1979 and moving to
Marshfield. Her husband, Harold, died on March 31, 2005.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Loyal. Vera had many
interests, but especially enjoyed knitting, crocheting and sewed
many quilt tops and backs for the church.
Vera will be sadly missed by her four children, Sandra (Robert)
Nesvick of Vancouver, Wash., Barbara (George) Richards of Houston,
Texas, Thomas (Susan) Lemke of Madison, and Kenneth (Barbara) Lemke
of Marshfield; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; one
sister, Laura (Vernon) Wegner of Minneapolis, Minn.; nieces,
nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harold; five
brothers, Clarence, Walter, Henry, Carl and Eldon; and five
sisters, Amanda Witheft, Dorothy Capelle, Emma Smith, Evelyn
Montgomery, and her identical twin sister Verna Stover.
In lieu of flowers, Vera's family asks that memorials be given to
the Alzheimer's
Association www.alz.org.
