East Lynn (2 June 1910)
Ye Scribe was fortunate enough Monday evening to receive a ride in R. Washburn’s new Auto. The trip to our notion was a pleasure as it was our first experience and was greatly enjoyed, but when a stretch of rough road appeared or a mud hole we grasped everything in reaches and hung on for dear life. But Bob said don’t be alarmed the thing is as gentle as a lamb. Midway between Lindsey and Progress an old couple was approaching with a grey horse and when we hove in sight the man made a bound like an antelope and grasped the old nag by the bridle, he dragged him by main strength and awkwardness into the brush while the woman was waving a handkerchief. If had the bit of calico been red it would have meant danger, but it was white and represented a flag of truce. The journey was made without a mishap and we were delivered back home safe and sound and wish to express our thanks and hope some day to return the favor.
W. Guk and Fred Zuehlke went fishing Sunday with very good results. The little fish were easy victims, but when Bill landed a six pounder he became somewhat nervous. He says if whales are coming as close as that he is going to get a harpoon.
Ben Muir was a Chili caller Monday.
A few of the neighbors helped W. Albrecht put a cement floor in his basement Tuesday.
Oscar Franke’s team started for the cheese factory Tuesday morning without the driver, wagon or milk. They stopped at C. Schlinsog’s place and returned to their owner. Of course that sometimes happens.
