Mattes, Jean Dawn (27 JUN 1959)

The Rev. Robert Olson officiated at the wedding on Saturday, June 27th, 1959, of Jean Dawn Mattes and Daniel Mead Winger of Thorp (Clark Co., Wis.), son of Mr. and Mrs. Eldred Winger.  The 4:00 p.m. double ring ceremony at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church at Thorp was followed by a reception and dinner for guests numbering about 450 at the American Legion Hall.

For her marriage, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Phillip Mattes of Thorp, chose a gown of white peau de soie with a sculptured bodice and scoop neckline coming to a V in front and edged with French piping in the back.  Her gown was fashioned with a chapel length train and her fingertip Mantilla veil was of French lace.  She carried a cascade bouquet of gardenias.

Janet Christensen of Cambridge, Wis., the maid of honor, a friend of the bride, and the bridesmaids, Faye Winger, Sue Winger, Karlyn Kuester, Faye Briski and Carole Winger, all wore gowns of white sheer nylon with green velvet flocking made in Empire style ballerina length with light green taffeta bows in the back and matching green pumps.  They carried colonial bouquets of white and pink carnations.

Ginger Winger, sister of the groom as flower girl, wore a white nylon dress and carried a basket of rose petals.

Dale Hokkanen of Lublin, a friend as best man, and the groomsmen, Phillip Mattes, Marlyn Mattes, brothers of the bride, and Ed Reinemann of Reedsville, Wis., and the fathers of the bride and groom, all wore dark tuxedoes.  Tommy Winger, brother of the groom, served as ring bearer.  Ushers were Harold Hallanger and Aaron Mattes.

The marriage took place before the candlelit altar banked with flowers.  With Mrs. William Boardman as organist, Nancy Lindquist sang the following numbers: "Entreat Me Not to Leave Thee," The Wedding Prayer" and "The Lord’s Prayer" throughout the services.

After a few days honeymoon at Eagle River, Wis., the newlyweds will make their home at Lublin, Wis., until September when they will both attend Kansas State University at Manhattan, Kansas.

The bride and groom are both graduates of the Thorp High School class of ’57.  The bride has been attending the University of Wisconsin and the groom Kansas State University.
