Mrs. Grob of Wausau is here visiting her daughter Mrs. Reiff.

 

Mrs. Frank Converse went to Melrose Monday.

 

Robert Kurth was in town Sunday. 

 

Mrs. W. D. Rose entertained the Circle last week Wednesday.

 

Principal Wells left for his home at Stevens Point, Monday.

 

Robert Krause was given a divorce in Circuit Court last Tuesday.

 

Miss Elsie Breseman is spending this week with her aunt, Mrs. H. P. Schlinsog.

 

John Martin went to Wausau Tuesday night, on business.

 

Mrs. Clemens Kuechenmeister was quite under the weather, early this week.

 

John Mooney returned home last Saturday from a several weeks visit with his parents in Michigan.

 

Mrs. Chas Neinas and daughter Lydia spent Monday with friends at Marshfield.

 

Mrs. E. D. Prange and her sister Miss Myrtle Spieker are spending a couple days at Will Davis’ in York.

 

Vet Marsh suffered the loss of a large barn from his Humbird farm in Monday Night’s wind storm.

Mr. and Mrs. Otto Bergeman and three children of Black Creek came Monday and remained until Wednesday noon visiting at his brother, Gust Bergeman’s here.

 

Warning - We wish to have it strictly understood it is none of our business where you spend your money and where you are buying your necessities of living; but if you are not already a victim of the grocery agent who has been in our vicinity for some time, take our advise and hold your order until you read Harry Eide’s experience with this man, which we will publish next week.

 

Remember the German Lutheran picnic at Nasonville next Sunday. This is where we get  a square meal.

Sunday June 18th is Children’s Day in the Lutheran Zion Congregation in Pine Valley.

 

Mrs. Fred Dopp and little daughter went to Galesville, Monday on a visit to relatives.

 

Miss Ethel Osgood came home on Monday from a few days visit at Chili.

 

E. R. Wonser made a business trip by auto to Loyal, Greenwood and Neillsville, Monday.

 

Ed Schoengarth, Hazel Crandell and Mr. and Mrs. Hal Grow autoed over from Neillsville, Sunday.

 

Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Crandell of Humbird spent several days of last week here between the Geo. and Fred Hart homes.

Mrs. Julius Breitenbach after a five weeks visit to her daughter Mrs. Gust Bergeman went home to Black Creek, Wednesday.

 

Will Kurth drove his auto to Withee for Gust Bergeman and his guests, Tuesday.

 

Miss Lena Riedel left on a visit for Plymouth and other Sheboygan County points Tuesday night.

 

Mrs. John Wright, much improved in health, is home from Milwaukee where she went for medical advice.

 

John Bladl, our harness maker is enjoying a visit from his father and sister who arrived here from Hokum, Minn., last week Friday.

 

Miss Lizzie Krause left for Rochester, Minn., Monday where she has since undergone a critical surgical operation.

 

Mrs. Wm. Reisner and little son, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Bird, Homer Downer and Paul Goebel were among the Grantonites in Neillsville, Monday.

 

Mrs. Fred Hart went to Humbird Monday evening to attend the annual meeting of the high school alumni of that place and visit relatives until this noon.

 

Miss Bessie Beeckler having finished her year of school teaching at Stanley came home from there last Friday.

 

Henry Neinas left as soon as school was out with bag and baggage or his uncle Ernest Neinas to stay the whole vacation through.

 

Mrs. Hugh Berg receiving the largest number of votes was awarded the sewing machine offered as a prize by the Quaker Medicine Co.

 

Geo Ure and Robert Kurth came over from Neillsville Tuesday and attended a bank meeting here that evening.

 

Mrs. C. E. Beeckler came home Monday evening from a ten days visit and pleasure trip at Milwaukee and various other Wisconsin points.

 

Myron Osgood lost a valuable driving horse, lat week. The animal’s death being the result of a heart failure

 

Rev. Reiff of this place, Rev. Kemena of Loyal, and Rev. Zielsdorf of Nasonville went to Arcadia last Tuesday where they are attending a conference.

 

Milton Snyder’s barn which is in course of construction was struck by lightning last week and considerably damaged.

W. D. Rose is plastering and finishing off the balance of the upstairs in his new home.

 

The recent heavy rains have flooded many cellars in town and the town pump is working overtime lately.

 

Mrs. Norman Hallock who for several weeks pas has been visiting friends in this vicinity is at present very ill at the home of Mrs. Amelia Davis, suffering with heart trouble.

 

I now have a wood tire round silo with hollow wall erected upon my farm 2 miles north of Granton.  Parties contemplating purchasing silos are invited to call and inspect same before buying. See W. D. Rose

 

John R. Bladl, one of Granton’s most substantial young men, and Miss Katy Martens of Chili were united in marriage at the latter place last Tuesday forenoon.

 

The Ed Schroeder residence has been beautifies with a handsome colonial porch, the work of Bealer brothers of Chili. The house is also receiving a coat of paint.

 

The parties who borrowed by carpenter plow, adz, tin shears and roof brush, are requested to return same to me at once.  L. A. Marsh

 

Miss Minnie Ward who taught at Dillon, Mont. last year is home and spent much of last week with Mrs. Clemens Kuechenmeister.  She will spend the balance of her vacation in her old home in Canada and report for duty at Dillon again in September.

 

Will Neinas’ barn in Town of Lynn was struck by lightning and consumed by fire during the electric storm Monday night.  There was no livestock in the barn at the time, but all other contents including farm machinery, gasoline engine, feed cutter, and feed grinder were destroyed.  The barn was one of the finest and best equipped in this part of the county. The loss amounts to about $3,000.00, with $1,591.00 insurance in the Lynn Mutual Fire Insurance Co.

 

Beginning Sunday, June 11th, there will be a series of special gospel meeting, conducted by the Church of Christ, at the Kintzele School house, Town of York.  The preaching will be done by T. L. Martin, Evangelist, of Winchester, Ky. All are especially invited to attend these services. The meetings on Lord’s day will be at 11 a.m. and 8 p.m., and every evening during the week at 8 p.m.  Come and bring your friends with you.

 

Miss Laura Schuelke came home from Milwaukee Wednesday.

 

The Misses Mayme Scholtz and Theresa Maloney leave today for Bismarck, N. D.

 

Mr. and Mrs. Baker of Seattle, Wash. on their way home from Florida visited Mrs. Bertha Fradette of Sherwood and Mrs. Montag at Lynn.

 

Mrs. Case, after a two weeks visit with her father, L. B. Osgood, among old friends here, left for her home at Baraboo Tuesday.  Mr. Osgood remained for a more extended visit.

 

Mr. and Mrs. Gust Bergeman, Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Beaver and Mr. and Mrs. Chas Neinas drove out and spent last Friday evening at the Wm. Neinas 20 year wedding anniversary celebration.

 

Helen Anding, Mrs. John Breseman and little sister, Agnes Krause, Mrs. Herman Schlinsog, her two children and her sister Lillie Handt and Miss Laura Neitzel were Neillsville visitors, Wednesday.

 

Mrs. Henry Albrecht and daughter Irma passed through here Wednesday enroute to Rockham, S. D., on an extended visit to Mrs. Alfred Bartz.

 

The Mesdames Henry Lawson, W. S. Davis, A. J. Knorr, Kearney Davis, Carl Roehl, E. R. Wonser, F. J. Baer, Ed Schroeder, D. S. Rausch, and the Misses Gluch, Lawson and Kimball were Neillsville visitors Tuesday.

 

Work on the new street from the A. J. Knorr residence running east, connecting with the road going north and south was commenced last week, but owing to the heavy rains and the rise of the Thornapple Creek the progress is rather slow.

 

During the electric storms last week the Lynn Mutual Fire Insurance Co., sustained a number of losses, most of them though being small. The losses reported and adjusted up till Tuesday noon are as follows: Joe Zentz, 1 cow; Mrs. Sam Fields, 1 cow; Paul Bealer, 1 cow; Will Sanger, silo damaged; Clarence Chubb, house damaged; John Vandeberg, 1 cow; Christian Kapler, 1 horse; C. Crocket, barn damaged; L. N. Herbert, 1 cow; and Will Neinas, barn, total loss.

 

For sale - 130 acres, 60 under cultivation and growing crops, balance timber and pasture; all fenced, no stones; fairly good buildings. I will consider city property of about $1,500 as part payment.  Will sell cheap; come and make me an offer. For particulars inquire at this office.
