Heathville (22 June 1911)
Chili is dry on Sunday
Three cheers for Sauerkraut City. Now don’t get the book worm.
John Duffe moved onto his new farm near Charley Mundt’s.
No letter from Latamore as yet. Let’s hear from you, Red.
Received a sack full of seed corn from Chas Sanger of Rockham, S. D. Thank You!
Thanks to the man that sold Albert Degener all the worthless seed corn.
There were no constipated business periods in Chili last Saturday on account of the thirst. Everybody seemed to have work on their mind with a down hill haul.
Miss Ruby Winn gave a picnic dinner in Knoll’s granary last Friday to her scholars; the occasion being the closing of a successful term of school.
Math Jordan, a brother of Loyal Jordan died at Lima on Wednesday, June 21.
A daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Sam Martin on Monday. Now Sam don’t speak to anybody.
Ten miles and a half, straight southeast of here lays East Lynn. The leading newspaper writer of Gukville, and if we knew that our influence would be of any value, we would have him change the heading of his column and call it Gukville in place of East Lynn. The further south you go of the last mentioned place you’ll find the metropolis of the Gukville Valley. On both sides of the road are valuable farms and that’s where Corbett and his ring master Charley Guk will have their outs some day. Corbett is a dog and Charley is a man. Tracing our steps back to where we started - here lives Bill Albrecht in a cozy brick house. Its surroundings and outbuildings show signs of good management and scientific farming. The writer has known Bill for about 20 years and many times we have divided a ½ pound of good live sausage for a two days vacation. At Fargo, Blondy got somewhat the best of him and pulled his pocket for a big V. But with an undisturbed conscience as Simon pure thought it was right there that we began our first apprenticeship. From beginning to end our visit of long ago was enjoyed like the feast set before the prodical son. We hunted, fished, feasted and went to church together. What more is there left but the end of this story and the fondest wish that we may repeat the journey.
