Maple syrup season is over and one is lucky to have any with the weather we had this spring.

Mr. and Mrs. Willis Williams and children came over from Granton to visit with Ed Ackerman and family on Sunday.  Mrs. Williams, being quite a checker played, indulged in a game with one of the country farm corners farmers, he not knowing as much about playing checkers as he does about handling a flying machine.  But to her surprise was beat at her favorite game by the would be checker player, she did not even received a king to her surprise, by golly.  Ha! Ha!  But never mind, one can at least learn if either sex will stop and think of the game.  Come again after we both have more practice.

Miss Alma Reindel is working for G.A. Wilson during the illness of Mrs. Wilson.

Miss Agnes Lastofka is taking piano lessons at Neillsville.

The patent road drags which are in use in our vicinity and section are doing wonders for making of good roads, but they are like the old fashioned rat traps, taking a barrel and fill it half full of water and placing food on the surface so as to conceal the water which is sure death for the rats.  So it is with the roads.  It covers the sink holes so smooth that they look deceiving.

F.D. Potter purchased a very fine team of horses at an auction near Heintown.

Fred Wright purchased a fine 4 years old colt at the Seward Way auction Tuesday.

Frank Plummer attended the dance at Haack Cheese Factory Saturday evening which is nearly completed.

Otto Henze and wife and daughter of Granton spent last Sunday at C.E. Reed’s.

W.J. Thayer of Granton was in our midst last Sunday, having made the trip by foot, but returned with his auto which he left at the Co. farm when he moved.

Mrs. Geo. Wilson who has been confined to her bed for the past week is on the gain at this writing.  Dr. Ross is attending her.

Fred Haack of the town of Weston called at A.M. Johnson’s Sunday.

Miss Jessie Northup is on the sick list at this writing.  Dr. Ross of Granton is in attendance.

Will Reindel, who has started to work for Chas. Northup on his saw rig, met with sad misfortune last Friday when by making a misstep and there not being any floor on the saw carrier, fell and in so doing threw his hand out to catch himself and caught hold of the timer that was traveling to the saw and thereby came nearer to the saw than expected and the consequence was that three fingers were sawed off and the fourth one about half.  So all he has left on his right hand is his thumb and index finger.  Dr. Ross was called and amputated the fingers which were taken off to the knuckle.  It is a miracle that he escaped with as many fingers as he did.  He is resting fairly well at this writing.

C.E. reed was a visitor at Chili Monday between trains, attending the cheese makers associating meeting.
