Weix, B. D. (Military Notes - 1963)
B. D. Weix, fireman, USN, son of Mr. and Mrs. R. J. Weix of Colby, is serving aboard the heavy attack aircraft carrier USS Independence, currently on seven months deployment with the Sixth Fleet in the Mediterranean. Independence departed her normal operational port, Norfolk, Va., August 6. Prior to embarking on her Sixth Fleet assignment Independence was on a refresher training cruise in the Caribbean. This refresher training was designed to prepare the Independence for her current role in the Mediterranean. Ports of call during the Mediterranean cruise will include Naples, Italy; Cannes, France; Barcelona, Spain; and other Southern Europe coastal cities.
