Beckman, Otto (12 SEP 1883 - 1 AUG 1959)
Funeral services were held on Tuesday afternoon, Aug. 4th at 2 o’clock in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church for Otto S. Beckman, 76, who died suddenly Saturday, Aug. 1st, 1959 of a heart attack while mowing the lawn at his home on the north side of the city of Thorp (Clark Co., Wis.). The Rev. Robert Olson officiated and burial as made in the Sylvan Cemetery at Reseburg.
Mr. Beckman was born Sept. 12, 1883 at Washington Island, Wis. He received his education in breezy Hill School, town of Worden (Clark Co.). He came to the Thorp area with his parents when he was about 11 years old.
He farmed in the town of Worden for 38 years, then moved to another farm in Butler where he resided 10 years. The past 10 months the Beckmans lived in Thorp, where they had bought a home.
His marriage to Mary Pingel took place in the Withee Lutheran parsonage.
Besides his widow he leaves five daughters, Mrs. Norbert (Irene) Wehrmann, Sheboygan, Wis.; Mrs. Roscoe (Meta) Butterfield, Hayward; Mrs. Edward (Margaret) Baures, Thorp; Mrs. Joe (Hilda) Ricci, Dayton, Ohio; Mrs. Arbor (Lena) Drinkwine, Barstow, Texas; two sons, Arnold Beckman, thorp; Lawrence Beckman, Germantown; 30 grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Harry (Clara) Baehr, Withee.
He was preceded in death by one brother, George, and three sisters, Martha, Laura and Ida.
Pallbearers were John Barth, Casper Haas Sr., John Pagel, Firman Baures, Charles Frinack Sr. and Emil Welzien.
Persons from out of town who were here to attend the funeral of Otto Beckman included Mr. and Mrs. Walter Klemme, Mrs. Roy Beckman, Mrs. Harry Klemme and John Rabe of Kiel, Wis.; Mr. and Mrs. Ed Miller, Loyal, Mrs. Bethel Beckman, Eau Claire, Mrs. Jack Albert and Miss Janet Butterfield, St. Paul, Miss Lois Butterfield, Madison, Mrs. Edna Steinmetz, Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Steinmetz and daughter and Miss Jean Schlucter, Chilton, and others from the Withee and Thorp areas.
