There was scattered frost in this area Friday morning, the first of the season. Corn and other crops were hurt in many places and in other places no damage was done.
The farmers are busy filling silo. Several got theirs filled last week. Corn is a good crop through this area and most of it is ripe. Most of the farmers have a lot of corn left for picking after the silos are filled.
Mr. and Mrs. Ole Skretteberg accompanied Mr. and Mrs. Peter Solverson of Viroqua on a trip through northern Wisconsin and Michigan. They left a week ago last Saturday, returning home the following Tuesday. They visited many interesting places around Hayward, Ashland, Bayfield, Cornucopia, Rhinelander and other places.
Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Short returned home last week Tuesday after spending several days in Verona with their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Don Stewart and family, and Mrs. Edna Stewart, and in Janesville with his brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Bell. On Friday night a group of 20 relatives had dinner at Sterlingworth Hotel near Whitewater. Those attending were: Mr. and Mrs. Amos Kegley, Mr. and Mrs. Garold Kegley and Archie Kegley and daughter, Delores, of East Troy; Mr. and Mrs. Walter Bell and Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Bell and family of Janesville; Mr. and Mrs. Don Stewart and family and Mrs. Edna Stewart of Verona; and Mr. and Mrs. Short. On Saturday, the Shorts accompanied Mr. and Mrs. Walter Bell on a trip through the southwestern part of the state to Dubuque, Ia., and through the Argyle and Darlington area, and saw some of the results of the recent tornado there. Many buildings were completely demolished, trees were down and fields of corn were flattened, and many corn fields were stripped by hail which accompanied the storm.
Mr. and Mrs. William Tullis and Mr. and Mrs. Christ Feutz were Marshfield visitors last week Monday.
