Chas. Altenburg lost a two-year-old colt Sunday morning.
The basket social at the schoolhouse last Thursday evening was attended by a large crowd. The proceeds of the sale amounted to $16.30 and the money will be used for buying pictures to decorate the interior of the school building. The program was a grand success and enjoyed by young and old. When a teacher trains her pupils as those were it tells more plainly than words can describe. That she has constantly the welfare of the youngsters at heart, and the parents should not forget to show their gratitude both by word and deed, which she so richly deserves. The same teacher has been already engaged for the coming term at an advanced salary. And we wish to thank those from the surrounding districts for their interest shown and money expended for a good cause, and may the good work go on.
Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Frake spent Sunday at C. Guk’s.
Oscar Sternitzky sold a horse to Ross Paulson last week.
The troubles of a professor are many.
A good remedy for sleep walking is to take two boxes of carpet tacks and scatter them on the floor just before going to bed.
Louis Sternitzky has the basement for his barn nearly completed. C. Chubb is doing the mason work.
A fellow in Fremont said not long ago that a full blooded Holstein critter was worthy of its weight in gold. Our opinion is that he was talking through his hat or is a professional liar. They might be worth their weight in dollars and cents on the block, but that is all the blamed boast will ever be worth.
Harry Eide says any man that would rather freeze to death than work to keep warm is a fool. There might be some wisdom to that.
It is not a very wise plan for a man to walk into the presence of another and tell him "you don’t know anything" and otherwise abuse him, even though he is justified in doing so, for chances are it will lead to a fistic encounter and many a poor mortal has learned to his sorrow that such pleasure is hard on the eyes. But lay all jokes aside and pay your subscription, the Editor has put on the gloves and is training for the white hope.
