Chester Frank Pernsteiner was born on
Feb. 25, 1928, in Medford, the son of Joseph Sr. and Ella
(Crostwaite) Pernsteiner. He grew up on the family farm and
received his education in the Medford area. After completing his
education, Chet continued to help his father on the farm and also
worked in the harvest fields in North Dakota during the summer
months.
He was united in marriage to Clare B.
Riehle on April 3, 1948, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Medford.
They farmed in the Medford area until 1954, and in 1955 purchased a
farm north of Loyal, where they raised their family. While on the
farm, Chet also hauled milk and did custom field work.
In 1973, Chet and his son, John,
started C&J Auto in Loyal. He also owned and operated
Pernsteiner Gas & Oil, that his son, Jay, took over in 1975.
Chet also owned and operated K-Korners Bar, seven miles north of
Loyal, from 1977 to 1979. He retired and handed over the operation
of his farm to his son, Jeff, in 1980. During retirement, Chet had
many interests, but especially loved working with his son, Jeff, on
the farm, spending time with his children and grandchildren,
traveling and playing cards. In his younger years, Chet also
enjoyed bowling, and playing pool.
He was a member of St. Anthony Catholic
Church.
Chet will be dearly missed by his wife,
Clare, of Loyal; his children, Judy Harder of Abbotsford, John
(Karlene) of Menomonie, Joann (Robert) Froeba of Loyal, Jeff
(Alice) of Loyal, Jeanine (Dallas) Nelson of Loyal, Jesse (Dawn) of

Arpin, and Jill (Patrick) Viergutz of Colby; 27 grandchildren and
14 great-grandchildren; one sister, Erna McNeely of Loyal; several
