Kivikko, John #2 (12 SEP 1882 - 5 JAN 1961)

John Kivikko, 78, who had been a resident of this country since coming here 55 years ago from his native Finland, passed away quietly at his home when stricken with a heart attack Tuesday morning, Jan. 5, 1961.

He had been a resident of this country since coming here from Finland in 1905.

Funeral services were conducted from Bethany Lutheran Church, Owen, with Pastor Karl G. Wilkman officiating, Saturday afternoon, Jan. 7, 1961.  His five sons and son-in-law served as pallbearers, with burial being made at Riverside Cemetery.

The deceased was born Sept. 12, 1882 in Finland.  After coming to the U.S. in 1905 he was united in marriage to Johanna Sofia Kukku in 1910 at a ceremony performed at DeKalb, Ill.  The following year the young people moved to Wisconsin, settling on a farm in the present town of Longwood (Clark Co., Wis.).  They retired from farming in 1943, returning to DeKalb, Ill., where they lived until 1955, at which time they returned to this community to make their home with their son, Edward, on his farm near Curtiss.

His survivors include his wife; two sisters and a brother, Sam, in Finland; a niece, Mrs. Hilma Tammi; five sons, Edward, Curtiss, Leonard, Owen, John, DeKalb, Ill., William, Spencer, and Reino, Rochelle, Ill.; one daughter, Mrs. Einar (Lila) Jackson, Greenwood; 18 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

Out of town people attending the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. John Kivikko Jr., Mr. and Mrs. Reino Kivikko and family of Rochelle, Ill., Walter Elson of Sycamore, Ill., Mr. Victor Seppala, Mr. Knute Makella, Mr. Arvid Kestila, and Mr. Edwin Kestila, all of De Kalb, Ill.
