Winamaki, Jacob (5 SEP 1885 - 1 MAR 1961)
Jacob Winamaki, a resident of this community for the past 50 years was placed in his final resting place when funeral services were held Saturday afternoon, March 4, from the Hoeper and Kraut Funeral Home. William Brussi of Michigan officiated at the final rites, with burial being made at Riverside Cemetery.
Pallbearers were William Kangas, Ensio and Rodney Bjorn, Marvin Salmi, Albert Johnson, and Matt Hautamaki.
He succumbed to a lingering illness at his farm home south of the city March 1, 1961, being 75 years, 5 months and 25 days of age.
The deceased was born Sept. 5, 1885, in Lapplin, Finland. In 1905 he came to the United States, settling first at Negaunee, Mich. Here he was united in marriage to Hanna Dahl on Aug. 31, 1907. In 1911 the couple moved to his present farm home south of the city where his wife passed away Nov. 7, 1926. On May 20, 1939, he remarried, being joined in wedlock to Mrs. Elsie Johnson in a ceremony performed in Ohio.
His passing is mourned by his widow, two sons, Ralph, who is with the U.S. Army in Korea, and Wayne of California; four daughters, Mrs. Walter (Edith) Humo, Waukegan, Ill., Mrs. E. (Sylvia) Bjorn, Owen; Mrs. William (Ella) Kangas, Owen, and Mrs. Marvin (Mayme) Salmi, Waukegan, Ill.; three step-sons, Albert, Robert and Wilbert Johnson, Detroit, Mich.; one step-daughter, Mrs. Glen Graham, Detroit, Mich.; two sisters in Finland; a brother, Hjalmer Winamaki, Bruce Crossing, Mich.; two cousins, Mrs. Nick Linna and Nels Santi, Ishpeming, Mich.; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
