Greenwood (28 November 1963)

 

The beginners knitting class, a special project, met Tuesday evening in the lunch room in Greenwood High School with more than 40 in attendance.  Instructors were Miss Ruth Ludowise, county home agent and Mrs. Don Warner. The second meeting of the group will be held Tuesday evening.

Arlan Hubert, son-in-law of Mr. and Mrs. Robert McConnell of Greenwood, underwent surgery Friday in Milwaukee.  He is a frequent visitor here.

 

Mrs. Joseph Kohlnhofer accompanied her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Kettner of Menomonie to Milwaukee Friday, where on Saturday the Kettners attended a wedding.  Mrs. Kohlnhofer visited her mother, Mrs. Catherine Shober, who was 94 years old in September; her son, Joseph Kohlnhofer, and her daughter, Mrs. Joseph (Barbara) De mar, and their families, and with other relatives.

 

Mrs. Julia Koci was admitted Sunday to St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield, for surgery. 

 

A double celebration was held Saturday evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Clintsman to celebrate the birthday of Mr. Clintsman, whose birthday was that day, and the birthday of his uncle, Warren Barnett, which occurred November 11. Cards were played and a lunch was served. Others present were Mr. and Mrs. Francis Clintsman and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Clintsman and children.

Twenty five members attended the American Legion Auxiliary meeting held Monday evening in the Legion Hall with Mrs. Robert Carl presiding. The group voted to send $45 for Christmas cheer and cigarettes to the Veterans’ hospitals.

 

Mrs. Adelbert Wells was appointed to pack and ship the articles of clothing, toys and other grits brought to the meeting for the veterans gift shop at Wood.  Cash donations of $22 for the gift shop were also received.

 

It was also voted to purchase $5 worth of Rehabilitation stamps.

 

Mrs. Lee Corey reported on tray favors she made for September, October and November.  Mrs. George Caliebe volunteered to make the tray favors for the next three months. Tray favors are to be sent to Mrs. Frank Persick in care of the Veterans Hospital, Tomah. The unit decided to send an order for 700 small and 300 large poppies.  A letter was read from the seventh district president.
