Buss, Charles #2 (9 JUN 1872 - 20 JUN 1961)
Funeral services are set for Saturday afternoon, June 23, for a pioneer resident of the Town of Longwood and Withee (Clark Co., Wis.) communities.
Charles Buss, 89 years and 11 days of age, died at his home in the Village of Withee Tuesday night. Death was attributed to complications of old age.
The Rev. Byrl Knudsen, pastor of Nazareth Lutheran Church, will read the final rites with burial being made at Riverside Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Emil Laabs, Bill LaMar, George Vollrath, Oscar Makkonen, Bill McNitt and Lewis McNitt. Carrying the floral offerings will be Delores Jackson and Doreen Quelle. Time of the service is 1:30 p.m. from the Hoeper and Kraut Funeral Home.
Born June 9, 1872 in Germany, the deceased came to this community when 30 years of age, first settling at Thorp in 1902. Later, he and his wife, the former Kathryn Sonntag, whom he married Dec. 26, 1899, in Detroit, Mich., moved to the town of Longwood where they farmed until his retirement in 1956. During these many years he was an influential figure in the community, being active in politics and served the township for many years as its chaiman. After their retirement, they moved to his present home in Withee.
His wife preceded him in death, passing away in 1960.
