Lurass, Herman (8 MAR 1881 - 6 JUL 1961)

 

Herman Lurass, a retired farmer of the Longwood (Clark Co., Wis.) area, who had made his home in Owen and Withee since 1944, passed away at his home in Withee Saturday, July 8, 1961.  Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at Longwood.  Rev. Myhrwold officiated at the final rites held at Emmanuel Lutheran Church.  Burial was made at Riverside Cemetery.

 

Acting as pallbearers were James Peterson, Art Petke, Christi Rasmussen, Lewis Gehrke, Victor Jessen and Pierce Owens Jr.  Carrying floral offerings were Mesdames Pierce Owens Jr. and Art Petke.

 

Herman Lurass was 80 years and 4 months of age, having been born March 8, 1881 at Mt. Horeb, Dane Co., Wis.  In 1920 he and his brother came to this community, settling on a large farm in the Longwood area, which they successfully farmed until his retirement in 1944.

 

On Oct. 29, 1919 he was united in marriage to the former Laurene Owens in a ceremony performed at Greenwood.  Since their retirement the couple made their home in Owen until a couple of years ago when they moved to Withee.

 

His passing is mourned by his wife, one brother, henry, route 1, Withee, and a number of nieces and nephews.
