Chili (14 July 1911)

The Fourth of this year is a thing of the past with all its work and joys. The work of the preparations for a day like that is immense and requires a lot of management and perseverance.

The ballgame between Heathville and Nasonville was good, although there were quite a few scores run up.  Heathville beat in the last half of the ninth inning; Yankee bringing in the winning score by 9 to 10 in favor of Heathville.  In the afternoon Mr. Hungerford addressed the people and advanced some very strong points in regard to reciprocity with Canada.  After the speech the races were carried out with exception of the horse race, there not being any horses to be entered. Quite a crowd attended the celebration which was a satisfaction to the association as the same when to quite an expense in getting this up. The Chili band played whenever there was a chance. The dance after supper lasted into the early morning hours.

A baby gladdened the hearts of Mr. and Mrs. H. Montag.

The Misses Vera and Pearl Beeckler visited with friends during the holiday.

Mr. and Mrs. Reichert are enjoying a visit of their brother-in-law and sister with children.

Quite a number from Granton were here to celebrate.  They made out a large number of the population.

J. A. Reichert was a Granton business caller this week, while out blacksmith R. Ebert and Clark Waterman went to Marshfield.

Lem Waterman came home Wednesday afternoon to stay a while.

Everybody is busy cutting grain and making hay. Both are on the average very satisfactory.

Do your shipping Saturdays hereafter, as according to law stores must be closed Sundays, since July 2nd.
