Ruggles, Walter L. (13 JUL 1896 - 30 AUG 1961)
Walter Lou Ruggles, a resident of the town of Hixon and Longwood (Clark Co., Wis.) for the past 36 years passed away at his present home in the Town of Longwood Aug. 30, 1961, being the victim of a heart condition. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon, Sept. 2, from the Alliance Church, Owen, with Rev. James Stone officiating. Burial was made at Oakwood Cemetery at Pepin, Wis. Serving as pallbearers were John Ericksmoen, Arthur Petke, Art Karow, Walter Petke, Roy Anderson and Howard Olson. Carrying the floral offerings were Mesdames Petke, Olsen, Ericksmoen, Karow and Anderson.
The son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter P. Ruggles was born July 13, 1896, in Lyon Co., Minn. At the conclusion of his schooling he served in the army in World War I. On Oct. 1, 1925, he and Myrtle Barnes were wed in a ceremony read at Arkansaw, Wis. The couple soon thereafter moved to the town of Hixon where he farmed for 18 years prior to moving to his present farm in the town of Longwood 18 years ago. While a resident of both communities he was active in community affairs, having served as school treasurer of the White School and Town of Warner.
Survivors include his wife, Myrtle; three sons, Robert and James of Withee, and Jerry of rural Owen; two daughters, Mrs. James (June) Navarre, Stillwater, Minn., and Mrs. Bruce (Mary Lou) Kluff, Safford, Ariz.; four sisters, Mrs. Delbert Talin, Clara city, Minn., Mrs. Elmer Carlsen, Braham, Minn., Mrs. Anna Davis, Jordan, Mont. and Mrs. Catherine Lewis, West Newton, Mass., and two brothers, Arthur of Kansasville, Wis., and I.E. Ruggles of New England, N.D.
