Klein, William #2 (17 MAY 1851 - 27 JUL 1913)

Relentless death has again invaded our midst.  This time it removed therefrom our worthy townsman Wm. Klein just at the opening of the Sabbath day of July 27^th, 1913.  His death was caused by apoplexy.  Last week Thursday he drove out of town here with his son Michael and his townsmen Fred Schwantes and Otto Garbush.  Driving to the Schwantes home he stopped and Mr. Schwantes got out of the front seat, his son Michael thought to ride in the seat just vacated by Schwantes beside his father, when before they could start up again Mr. Klein without a moment’s warning, fell head foremost from the buggy, having suffered a sudden spell of heart trouble.  He suffered a broken shoulder bone thru the fall but his days were numbered and though all that was possible through medical aid was done for him, he passed from this world shortly after midnight two days later.

W. Klein was born in Belgium, Ozaukee Co., Wis., May 17, 1851, and came here in the spring of 1878 when he was married to Miss Kate Perong.  Of this union one son, Michael, only survives.  This Mrs. Klein died seventeen years ago.  After being widowed a number of years he again married, this time marrying a Mrs. Hort.  She too, preceded him in death, passing on some three years ago.  There were no children born of this union.  The funeral was held from the Catholic Church at Neillsville Tuesday morning, and burial made in the Catholic Cemetery beside those of his loved ones gone before him.

The pallbearers, close friends of the deceased, were John Marx, Mat Marx, Mike Prock, Joe Miller, Mat Miller and Mat Resong.  Among out of town relatives in attendance at the funeral were his brother Dominic of Wausau, and their two sisters, Mrs. Mike Hubing of Athens and Mrs. Krier of Belgium, Mrs. Ahern of Chicago, a sister of his first wife, Frank, George and Emil Hubing of Athens and John Hubing of Loyal.

The deceased was a worthy townsman, a beloved father, and esteemed friends, whose death is mourned by a host of friends.
