Preller, Myrtle M. (Wilhelmi) Fenske (November 8, 1925 - December 21, 2011)

Myrtle M. (Wilhelmi) Preller, 86, Green Bay, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2011, surrounded by family.

Born on Nov. 8, 1925, in Milwaukee, she was the only child of the late Herbert and Elna (Baehr) Wilhelmi.

She married Edwin A. Fenske on May 4, 1946, and he died in an automobile accident on Jan. 22, 1948.

Later she married Richard E. Preller on Sept. 29, 1949, and had three sons, Stephen, Brodhead; David (Marcia), Woodbury, Minn.; and James (Cindy), Grayslake, Ill. Myrtle and Richard lived in Abbotsford, and Marshfield before moving to Green Bay in 1958.

Myrtle graduated from Abbotsford High School and began her career as a secretary in Milwaukee. In Green Bay, Myrtle worked for the Red Cross, the law firm of Stebbins and Gower, and for Hilgenberg Realty.

She was a charter member of St. Mark Lutheran Church and was an active and passionate member, teaching Sunday school, singing in the choir, and was active in the Ladies Guild. She loved following the successes of her three sons and two granddaughters, Anne of Minneapolis and Elizabeth of Hudson. Myrtle loved to knit, play cards, research genealogy, study history, and play bingo.  She was an avid Packers and Brewers fan and enjoyed following sports of her children and grandchildren. Given her many interests and activities, family always remained the most important part of Myrtle's life.

Myrtle was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Richard; and her grandson, Michael Preller.

Friends may call at St. Mark Evangelical Lutheran Church, corner of Oneida St. and Kenwood St., Green Bay, from 10 a.m. to noon Monday, Dec. 26.  The funeral service will be held at noon Monday at the church with the Rev. Eric Hansen officiating. Entombment will be in Fort Howard Memorial Park.
