Peterson, Mathilda (28 May 1873 - 29 February 1964)

 

Funeral services were held March 2 for Mrs. Matilda Petersen, 90, of Neillsville, who died February 29 in Neillsville. Services were held March 2, from the Georgas Funeral home. The Rev. W. C. Koehler of the United Church of Christ officiated at the services here.  The body was taken to Denmark, where services were conducted March 3 at 1:30 p.m. from the Knutson Funeral Home. The Rev. J. H. Thomsen officiated at this service. Burial was made in the West Danish Cemetery there. 

 

Mrs. Petersen was born May 28, 1873, in Denmark, the daughter of the late Christian and Julia Ann (Christensen) Jorgenson. She attended Denmark schools.  Her first marriage was to Albert Kellner, who died in 1900.  Her marriage to Alfred J. Petersen took place in 1905.  He preceded her in death in 1946.

 

The family came to Neillsville in 1913, where they operated a hardware store, retiring in 1927.  She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Wilson-Heintz Post No. 73, and Royal Neighbors of America Golden Link Lodge No. 78.

 

Mrs. Petersen is survived by two sons, Arne of Neillsville, and Austin of Whitefish Bay; six grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

 

Members of the W. R. C., Legion Auxiliary and Rebekahs attended the funeral in a body.

 

Pallbearers at Denmark were: Russell, Leonard, Gilbert Larsen, Earl Peterson, Ralph Erickson and Austin Jorgenson.

 

Those from away attending the Neillsville service were: Mr. and Mrs. Austin Petersen and Mrs. Jean Duvahl of Whitefish Bay; C. P. Brick and Harold Stabnow of Greenwood.

 

Attending the Denmark service were Arne Petersen of Neillsville; Mr. and Mrs. Austin Petersen and Mrs. Jean Duvahl of Whitefish Bay; and john Petersen of Beloit.
