Gronek, William (1888? - 5 August 1914)
Wm. Gronek, the 26-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Gronek, living six miles west of Withee, was fatally injured late Tuesday afternoon while attempting to throw a belt off a pulley which was in motion on a wood sawing rig. The crew had just finished a cut and Gronek went to throw the belt off the pulley which was running the saw, and in some manner was thrown under the saw, cutting off one of his arms and breaking the other one in three different places. Several ribs were broken and he was otherwise injured internally. Medical aid was immediately summoned, but the young man died shortly after the arrival of the doctors. Several of his fellow workers were with him at the time of the accident, but no one seemed to see just how the accident happened. - Owen Enterprise
