Niemi, Arne (19 SEP 1909 - 19 OCT 1961)

 

Arne Niemi, 52, a longtime employee of the city’s street and water department, and a resident of this community since 1922, died suddenly at his home on Oct. 19th, 1961.  His death was attributed to a coronary attack.

 

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Monday from Bethany Lutheran Church, Owen.  The parish pastor Rev. Karl Wilkman read the final rites with burial being made at Riverside Cemetery.

 

Serving as pallbearers were Frank Karye, William Kangas, james Crowley, Lawrence Clark, Melvin Bjornstad and Harry Dempsey.  Carrying the floral offerings were Mesdames May Nelson, Frank Karye, William Kangas and Melvin Bjornstad.

 

Arne John Niemi was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Niemi.  Born Sept. 19, 1909, in DeKalb, Ill., he moved with his parents as a small boy to Sheldon, Wis., prior to coming to Owen in 1924.

 

The shock of his sudden passing is mourned by his wife, the former Gertrude Tuomi, whom he married in Owen on April 4, 1955; three sisters, Mrs. Arne (Saima) Hukkola, Waukegan, Ill., Mrs. L.E. (Bertha) Bulgrin and Mrs. Senina Luoma, Owen, and a brother, Elmer Niemi of Waukegan, Ill.

 

Out of town relatives and friends attending the funeral were from Ironwood, Mich., Negaunee, Mich., Ishpeming, Mich., Republic, Mich., Waukegan, Ill., Ogema, Westoboro, Medford, Tony, Sheldon and Holcombe.
