Jonkel, George M. (21 September 1895* - February* 1964)

Enclosed with a letter to Mr. and Mrs. John Sollberger from Mrs. Ruth Hart Andrews of Seward, Alaska was a clipping from an Anchorage newspaper on the death of George Jonkel, once a resident of the Columbia area (and former husband of Ruby [Poertner] Yndogliato of Neillsville).  It stated:

Funeral arrangements were made at an Anchorage Funeral Chapel for George M. Jonkel, 68, who was found dead in his cabin on Lake Wasilla, March 27.  He had apparently been dead for approximately a week. An autopsy was ordered to determine the cause of death and it was found he died of natural causes.

He is survived by a daughter, Theo, of San Francisco, Calif.; a son, George, Jr., of Huron, S. D.; a son, Charles, of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada; and six grandchildren.

Mr. Jonkel was a retired cook from the Alaska boats.  He owned some land, a small cabin and once operated a small store.

Masonic rites were held at the graveside in Anchorage.

*All dates, of birth and death were found in the SSDI.
