Harvesting is well underway and a bounteous crop is assured. Oats will yield 100 bushels per acre and reports are coming in from those who have threshed their rye that the yield is from 40 to 55 bushels. The barley is an immense crop and it is impossible to give a fair estimate. The weather the past few weeks has been very favorable, veal calves are 9 cents per pound live weight, the whey pasteurized for the little pigs, Fremont once again at the helm, potato bug season is over, a few more tin weddings in sight, a pleasant smile from the Editor when he captures a new subscriber, indications for a milder winter, who would have the heart to complain.
Louis Knoop enjoyed a few days visit from his father and sister Miss Clara of Pink Valley.
We are rather short on items this week on account of cutting oats last Sunday and had no time to gather the news, so please excuse.
Herman Portz threshed clover for Wm. Sanger Monday.
Gustave Kaddatz is still unspoken for and can yet be secured.
Will Guk left for Granton Wednesday to take charge of one of Aug. Lautenbach’s threshing machine engines.
