Rondorf, Joe house fire (09 Nov 1957)
Fire of undetermined origin early Saturday morning at the Joseph Rondorf farm home, south west of Loyal in Eaton township, damaged the dwelling and some of its furnishings including clothing.
The owner discovered the fire about 4:14 a.m. after he was aroused from sleep by the odor of smoke and crackling of the flames. He awakened other members of the family, who escaped from the home unhurt.
A new rural fire truck, purchased jointly by Warner and Eaton townships, which is manned by the Greenwood Fire Department, was put into service for the first time to help suppress the flames.
Most of the damage was in a two-room, one-story section of the house containing a kitchen and dining room. Members of the family were asleep in a larger two-story section of the house, which was only partly damaged.
No estimate of the loss was available, but Rondorf said it was partly covered by insurance.
