Schaffer, Mark (1948? - 17 MAR 1962)
A 13-year-old Town of Colby (Clark Co., Wis.) boy, on his way how from Catechism class, became Clark County’s fourth traffic victim, the third this month, Saturday morning.
Mark Schaffer was killed instantly due of a crushed skull when he was thrown from and pinned beneath an auto driven by his sister, Mrs. Robert Hansen, 21, Colby.
One of Mrs. Hansen’s three children in the car, Sheri, 2, suffered a fractured left leg and was taken to the Marshfield hospital. Mrs. Hansen and the other two children, Cindy, 3, and Robert Jr., 6 months, escaped injury.
Clark County officers said Mrs. Hansen lost control of the auto about 10:30 a.m. on a muddy, rut-filled town road, five miles west of Colby and a mile from the home of the boy’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lester Schaffer, route 2, Colby.
The Hansens live in Colby. Coroner Robert Lulloff said Mrs. Hansen was driving her brother home from a morning Catechism class.
Extensive damage was reported to the 1956 Mercury, not equipped with seat belts.
