Smiley, Leon W. (5 MAR 1880 - 23 MAR 1962)
Funeral services were held on Monday, March 26 at 2:00 p.m. at the Curtiss Alliance Church for L.W. Smiley, who passed away at the Stanley Hospital on March 23rd, 1962 of heart trouble.
He was born at Winterset, Iowa, on March 5, 1880, and married the former Bertha Buchanan.
They came here and settled on a farm north of Curtiss (Clark Co., Wis.) in 1919 and lived there until she passed away in Dec. 1960.
Since then he has lived with his son, Leland, and family at Stanley.
Children surviving him are Mrs. DuWayne Bulgrin of Owen, Leland of Stanley and Donald of Wausau, six grandchildren and one great grandchild. One son, Lester, died in the service. His wife and one brother preceded him.
His body was lying in state at the Hoeper and Kraut Funeral Home in Owen.
Pallbearers were Alfred Erickson, Grant Herrick, Wilford Marcott, Neil Green, Alfred Thompson, Ed Krause. Singers were Rev. and Mrs. W.H. Wagner, accompanied by Mrs. Alfred Thompson, singing "Moment by Moment" and "Wonderful Jesus."
Out of town people attending the services were Mr. and Mrs. Leland Smiley and family, Stanley; Mr. and Mrs. Richard Krueger, Madison; Mr. and Mrs. Donald Smiley and son, Wausau; William Hall and Mr. and Mrs. Eldon Hall, Medford; the Rev. and Mrs. H.D. Wagner, Northfield, Minn.; Mr. Goelden, Eau Claire, and many friends and relatives from owen, Stanley, Withee, Eau Claire, Colby, Chippewa Falls, Abbotsford, Curtiss and the surrounding area.
