Schindler, Fred W. (August 19, 1916 - January 8, 2012)

 

Fred W. Schindler, age 95, of Curtiss, passed away Sunday, January 8, 2012, at his home with his family by his side.


A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Abbotsford on Thursday, January 12, 2012 at 11 a.m. Father Dan Hackel will officiate. A visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, January 11, 2012, at the Church and again on Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the Church. Burial will be in the Abbotsford Public Cemetery.

 

Pallbearers will be Mark Krause, Ryan Hoffman, Kraig Schindler, Cole Jannene, Garrett Schindler, Brandon Schindler, Zayne Rau, Sawyer Schindler, and Evan Schindler.


Fred was born August 19, 1916, to Sebastian and Anna (Bowe) Schindler in Chippewa Falls, WI. He received his education from St. Charles Parochial School in Chippewa Falls. Fred served his country during World War II as a member of the military police and a cook in the Army.

 

Fred was united in marriage to Cecelia Koplitz at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Withee on October 14, 1942. Fred farmed his entire life in the township of Mayville.


Fred was a member of St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Abbotsford and a member of the church council; he also served on the Federal Land Bank Board in Chippewa Falls for 28 years. He enjoyed the outdoors, farming, storytelling, playing cards, shaking dice but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family.


Fred is lovingly survived by his wife of 69 years, Cecelia; his children, Patricia (Greg) Krause of Prentice, Marie (Ted) Hoffman of Lake Mills, Fred (Linda) Schindler of Curtiss, Jayne (Julian) Jannene of Colby, Leonard (Diane) Schindler of Colby, Peggy (Richard) Rau of Dorchester, Tim (Lisa) Schindler of Curtiss and Tom (Robyn) Schindler of Marshfield.

 

Fred is further survived by 28 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Pam Schindler of Curtiss; sister, Margaret Hinkle of Madison; and brother, James Schindler of Unity.


Fred is preceded in death by his parents; his son, Michael Schindler; and brother and sisters, Marie Schindler, Elmira Vaaron, Leone Lieske, Edward Schindler, Elbert Schindler, Elmer Schindler, Kenneth Schildler, Valaria Schindler, and Bernadette Schindler.


In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to the Mike Schindler Memorial Scholarship fund.
