Clarice "Dolly" Eleanor Hubbard, age 91, passed onto her eternal rest on Monday, January 16, 2012, peacefully at her home surrounded by her children.
Clarice Eleanor Warner was born on August 17, 1920, in Thorp, Wisconsin, to john and Esther (Soderberg) Warner. Clarice attended Thorp schools and graduated from Thorp High School in 1938. Clarice attended the Bellin Hospital School of Nursing in Green Bay, Wisconsin. After three years of nursing school, Clarice graduated as a registered nurse and moved to St. Paul, Minnesota, to pursue her medical career. During World War II, she enlisted in the navy as a nurse. Clarice was stationed at Mare Island near San Francisco. After the war, Clarice worked at Luther Hospital in Eau Claire. On May 12, 1945, Clarice married the love of her life, Dean Hubbard. Clarice and Dean farmed south of Thorp from 1945 until 1978. After retiring from farming, Clarice and Dean moved to Thorp.
Clarice was a proud, lifelong member of the Thorp United Methodist Church. She was also very active in the United Methodist Women, Friendly Neighbors Homemakers, and an avid bridge player. For more than 31 years, Clarice organized the American Red Cross blood drives in Thorp, Wisconsin. Clarice coordinated the collection of over 18,000 pints of blood during her tenure. She retired as blood drive coordinator in 2006. Clarice was actively involved in the Thorp Alumni Association serving in a variety of roles. Clarice enjoyed being a secret pen-pal with students in Thorp Elementary School.
Family was everything to Clarice. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who inspired all. Clarice was a modest and humble behind-the-scenes lady who never forgot a birthday or anniversary. Her house was always open to visitors with food and baking ever present. She was a vocal Green Bay Packers fan and supported the Thorp Cardinals. She will be greatly missed by family, friends, and the community at large.
Clarice is survived by her four sons, one daughter, 12 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Her children include: Dennis (Fay) Hubbard of Esko, Minnesota, Corinne (Ron) Gjerning of Altoona, Gordon (Nancy) Hubbard of Sheboygan, Gerald (Susie) Hubbard of Medford, and Scott (Luanna) Hubbard of Thorp. Grandchildren include Travis Hubbard of Madison, Mathew Hubbard of Eau Claire, Anna (Chad) Lovaas of Eau Claire, Crissy (Morgan) Hanson of Chippewa Falls, JoAnne (Joe) Korpi of Ogden, Iowa, Bethany (Trapper) Niccum of Durango, Colorado, Adam Schneider of Baltimore, Maryland, Paul (Megan) Schneider of Thornhurst, Pennsylvania, J. D. Carly and Max Hubbard of Medford, and Collin Hubbard of Thorp. Great-grandchildren include Aubrey Lovaas, Dean, Quinn & Calvin Hanson, Joshua & Josiah Korpi, Evan & Aiden Niccum and Patrick Schneider.
Clarice is preceded in death by her husband, Dean, on June 20, 2011; parents; brothers: Glen, Roger, Joe; and sister, Ceona; as well as her great-grandson, Samuel Lovaas.
Funeral services will be Saturday, January 21, 2012, at the Thorp United Methodist Church at 10:30 a.m. Visitation will be at the Thorp Funeral home from 4 - 8 p.m. on Friday and an hour before the service on Saturday.
