James Evert Barkley with his teacher.

James Evert Barkley was the son of George Albert and Minnie Dorothea (Schumacher) Barkley who was born 7/16/1909 in Humbird, Wisconsin. He told me the woman in the photo (Mrs. Dob/Dap?) to his right was his teacher.  It seems that she and my grandmother at one instance had a difference of opinion on discipline in the classroom.  But, I seem to remember Dad saying he really liked her.

In his early years, James Barkley called Humbird home and lived there until WWII-except for a few years he was in the CCC. He told me a story about working at the Mentor cemetery when he was 16 helping to relocate graves because a highway was going through part of the cemetery and they had to move some of the graves. this would have been around 1924 or 25. I would like to confirm this but I have no idea how to find these records.
