Granton High School Class of 1939 (25 Year Reunion - 1964)
The Granton High School class of 1939 held its silver jubilee reunion August 1. Fourteen of the 21 graduates were present.
Arrangements for the event were made by Leolene (Grassman) Cleveland and Robert and Nona (Dankemyer) Howard with Bob serving as master of ceremonies.
After a tour of the high school conducted by Mr. Lehman, the class and faculty members gathered at Steinie’s Club 10, where dinner was served at 6 p.m. The class colors, class flower and motto made up the table decorations.
Four former teachers returned for the reunion: S. D. Macomber, New Lisbon , principal in 1939; Mrs. Verna (Stricker) Mallory, Neillsville; and Raymond Urbans, West Chester, Ill., who were the two class advisors. Mrs. Vernon (Myrtle Pike) Peterson, Poynette, also attended. A remembrance was given each teacher.
Awards were given to several members: Mr. and Mrs. Jerry (Arline Keuer) Zalabsky, Pittsville, for sending in the first reservation; Mr. and Mrs. Bernard (Elsie Matas) Prange of Libertyville, Ill, married the longest and traveled the longest distance; Mr. and Mrs. Felix (Lola Lowery) Krause of Loyal, most children; Mr. and Mrs. Melbourne (Leolene Grassman) Cleveland of Wisconsin Rapids, the most married children and most grandchildren; Mr. and Mrs. LeRoy Todd of Marshfield, returning the first form letter stating that they would attend; Mr. and Mrs. Robert (Nona Dankemyer) Howard of Marshfield, marrying classmates; Mr. and Mrs. Marvin (Lorraine Garbisch) Wenck of Woodstock, Ill., celebrating their 21st wedding anniversary that day.

Mrs. Paul Grass conveyed a message from Mrs. Malden (Esther Schlinsog) Novakovic, Milwaukee, and Mrs. Roy (Margaret Beeckler) Retzlaff, Verona, were unable to attend. Teachers unable to attend who send greetings were: Donald Simmelink, Minneapolis; Mrs. Rodney (Virginia Gunlach) Rodfeld, Madison; Miss Emma Larson, Wausau; Willard Schultz, Madison; and Mrs. Walter (Maxine Otis) Trimberger, Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Remembrance cards signed by classmates and teachers were sent to absent members, and get-well cards were sent to Herbert Grassman and Mr. H. G. Knuteson, a former principal who resides at New London.
A brief history of each classmate made up in booklet form was presented a souvenir. Old pictures bedecked the walls and a map giving the location of each classmate and teacher was posted to familiarize them with the location of each.
Plans were made to hold the next reunion in five years. The came committee will be in charge, with the help of Lorraine (Garbisch) Wenck.
