Rasmussen, Margaret Mary (1 May 1927 – 12 January 2021)
Margaret Mary Rasmussen, age 95, of Owen, passed away on Tuesday, January 12,
2021 at her home surrounded by family and supported by the compassion of
Heartland Hospice
Margaret was born on May 1, 1927 to Peter H. and Edith (Ehlert) Kessenich. She
grew up in the Town of Longwood, attending Longwood and Owen schools graduating
from Wausau High School in 1944. On May 3, 1945, she married her childhood
sweetheart, Kristian N. Rasmussen in Park Ridge, IL at St. Paul of the Cross
Church. In 1948, they returned to the Longwood area, purchased the family farm
and raised their six children there.
In 1971, they sold the farm to son, Jim, and built their retirement home nearby.
Margaret worked as a nursing assistant at Clark County Rehabilitation and Living
Center for 16 years, retiring in 1989. She was a member of Holy Rosary Parish in
Owen for 73 years where she was a member of the PCCW.
Margaret is survived by their six children: daughter, Susan Vaitonis (Dan
Cooper) of Chandler, AZ, sons, James (Donna) of Owen, Steven (Theresa) of
Medford, John (Betsy) of Thorp, Paul (Mary) of Mondovi and Joseph (Darlene
Jacobson) of Stevens Point; a sister, Joan Kirner of Prairie Du Sac; 13
grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 75 years on December 1,
2020; brothers, Arnold, John and Gilbert and sister, Florence.
Margaret, a strong, intelligent and thoughtful person along with Kris parlayed
their faith, determination and perseverance into a life rich with rewards.
A Funeral Mass will be held at a later date.
