Acker, Edward R. (1893 - 30 AUG 1962)
Edward R. Acker, a former Owen (Clark Co., Wis.) resident and businessman, died at the Veterans Hospital in St. Cloud, Minn., Thursday, Aug. 30, 1962, after an illness of five and one-half years.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 o’clock Sunday afternoon at the First Congregational Church, Owen, with Rev. Ralph Claybaugh officiating. Masonic rites were held at the graveside at the cemetery in Greenwood.
Born in Milwaukee in 1893, Acker, 69, moved with his family to a farm near Greenwood when he was six years of age.
He married Ruby Long in 1920 and from that time until 1934 they resided in Owen, serving as a building contractor. A veteran of World War I, Acker was educated in the schools at Greenwood and Marshfield Business College.
From 1934 to 1943 he worked as a building engineer for the government, and then took a position as building examiner in Chicago until 1955. After that time he and his wife resided in Minneapolis.
Besides his wife, Acker is survived by his daughter, Mrs. James Haire, Minneapolis; four grandchildren and one brother, Paul Acker, Greenwood.
