Friends and relatives of John William "Jack" Gummerson paid their final respect to him at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church where a requiem mass was said at 9:30 Saturday morning.  Father H.L. Crubel officiated at the final rites.  Military rites were conducted by the Van Huizen-Fritz American Legion Post 123, Owen, at Riverside Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers were Lester Jens?, William Wollure?, William C. Jonson, Claire Milliren, Henry Mauel Jr. , and Charles Schmulke.

Gummerson, 41, an Owen (Clark Co., Wis.) businessman since his return from naval service in World War II, had been the victim of failing health in recent months and submitted to a shocking and sudden death Thursday morning, Oct. 18^th, 1962.

He was born in Chippewa Falls, moving to Owen in his infant days.  Since being a resident here he had gained the adoration of a host of friends, not only in Owen, but in an extended area from Owen, which he served with his implement business.  His integrity was highly respected in the rural area.  He, too, was an active civic and church leader.  He held numerous offices in the various men’s clubs and organizations of the Holy Rosary Church, served as president of the Owen Kiwanis Club, a member of the Owen Junior Fair Board, was active in both the Black River Rod and Gun Club and the Black River Bowmen’s Club; and served two terms as supervisor of the Fourth Ward on the Clark County Board of Supervisors.

His passing is mourned by his wife, Caroline, whom he was united in marriage to in 1943; and three sons, Noel, Robin and Kurt; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Gummerson, city; and two brothers, Charles, Chicago, Ill., and James of Withee.
