William Hanson, 75, of Greenwood and formerly of the Athens and Abbotsford areas, died Sunday of a heart attack at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Lindner, in Greenwood.

 

Funeral services will be held today (Thursday) at 2 p.m. from the Presbyterian Church in Abbotsford.  The Rev. Glidden will officiate.  Burial will be made in the Abbotsford Cemetery.  Arrangements were being made by the Hill Funeral Home in Greenwood.

 

William Hanson was born April 22, 1889, in Manville. On July 24, 1912, he married Agnes Jones at Athens, where they resided until 1955.  At the age of 14 he started working at the Rietbrock Land and Lumber Co., where he held the position of head sawyer until the firm dissolved in 1936.  He then farmed in the area until 1955, when he retired and moved to Greenwood.

 

Survivors besides his wife include: three daughters, Mrs. Oscar (Wilma) Blumenkamp of Wausau, Mrs. Arno (Carol) Roepke of Barneveld, and Mrs. Carl (Ethel) Lindner of Greenwood; three sons, Myron  of Rib Lake, Robert of Eagle River and Arthur of Menomonie; 15 grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

William Hanson, 75, of Greenwood, died unexpectedly of a heart attack at 11:15 p.m. Sunday at the home of his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Lindner, at Greenwood.

 

William Hanson, son of Frederick and Marie Hanson, was born April 22, 1889, in Manville.  At the age of two years he moved with his parents to Athens. At the age of 14, he began working at the Rietbrock Land & Lumber Company at Athens, working his way up in the saw mill to head sawyer, which position he held until the mill ceased operation in 1936.

 

He then farmed in the Athens and Abbotsford areas, until his retirement in 1955, when he came to Greenwood.

 

His marriage to Agnes Jones, who survives, took place July 24, 1912, at Athens.  Other survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Oscar (Wilma) Blumenkamp of Wausau, Mrs. Arno (Carol) Roepke of Birnamwood, and Mrs. Carl (Ethel) Lindner of Greenwood; three sons, Myron of Rib Lake, Robert of Eagle River, and Arthur of Menomonie; 15 grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

 

Funeral services were held last Thursday from the First Presbyterian Church in Abbotsford. The Rev. Charles Glidden officiated and burial was made in the Abbotsford Cemetery.

 

Pallbearers were: Arvin Kraemer, Howard Kraemer, Alvin Jacobi, Jerry Verona and Ernest Boss.

 

Relatives who attended were: Mrs. William Hanson and Mr. and Mrs. Carl Lindner and family of Greenwood; Mr. and  Mrs. Oscar Blumenkamp of Wausau; Mr. and Mrs. Arno Roepke and family of Birnamwood; Myron Hanson of Rib Lake, Robert Hanson of Eagle River, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Hanson and family of Menomonie; Dr. and Mrs. Alvin Gruenwald of Lake Bluff, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Wirkus and son, Mark, and Mrs. Edward Hanson of Marshfield; Mr. and Mrs. Burton Fulmer and Mrs. Virgil Young and Mrs. Walter Hanson of Wausau; Mr. and Mrs. Ole Fladvid and Mrs. Laura Gruenwald of Athens; and many friends from Athens, Westboro, Greenwood and the Abbotsford area.
