Beck, Jens (5 OCT 1874 - 16 DEC 1962)

 

Rev. Byrl Knudsen officiated at the final rites conducted for Jens Beck, 88, yesterday afternoon, Dec. 19, at Nazareth Lutheran Church, Withee.  Burial was made in the parish cemetery.

 

Serving as pallbearers for this pioneer resident of the Withee community were Carl Pedersen, Chris Ellei, Sig Borgeson, Andrew Olsen, Ed Cizek and Einer Larson.

 

Mr. Beck passed away at his home northeast of Withee (Clark Co., Wis.) Dec. 16, 1962, having reached the age of 88 years, 2 months and 11 days.  He was born Oct. 5, 1874 in Denmark and married there in 1901 to Ingeborg Christine Miller.  They moved to the United States in 1909, first settling in Owen where they resided for two years before moving to his present home.

 

He is survived by seven sons, Theodore and James of Milwaukee, Peter, Louisville, Ky., Alfred, Racine, hans, Camp Douglas, Wis., and Frederick and Chris of Withee; two daughters, Mrs. Anne Williams, Oak Park, Ill. and Helen, Withee; 12 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and a sister Marian, in Denmark.

 

Preceding him in death were his wife in 1954 and a son, Helmer, a victim of World War II.
