Humbird Local Happenings (22 April 1944)
Mr. and Mrs. Earl Bemis and family were guests of honor at a farewell party Saturday night at the Legion Hall, given by the Legion and Auxiliary. The evening was spent in playing cards and a social time. Lunch was served and the guests were presented with a gift of remembrance and best wishes in their new home. Mr. and Mrs. J. Art Johnson were also remembered, the occasion being their twentieth wedding anniversary.
The WPB requests shoppers to carry their market baskets to help avert a critical shortage of store bags and wrapping paper during the next few months. Re-use paper bags whenever possible. Small and boxed articles should be accepted unwrapped. Carry your market basket or shopping bag.
Twelve members of the Methodist congregation attended the 4th quarterly conference of the circuit at Merrillan last Sunday evening.
Mr. A. E. Fradenburg has completed the erection of a new porch on the front of his residence. It will be screen enclosed "if and when."
Principal Noyes attended a physical fitness clinic held at the Eau Claire State Teachers College last Friday afternoon.
April 23 to 29 is Humane Week in Wisconsin.
Dr. and Mrs. S. G. Schwarz arrived from Berrien Springs, Mich., last Sunday, their son, Robert driving through with them. Robert left the same night, as he is reporting for army service. Their van load of household goods arrived the next morning, and Dr. and Mrs. Schwarz are getting nicely settled in the home which they purchased from Mrs. Mary Babler. Dr. Schwarz disposed of his property at Berrien Springs before leaving that city. All join in welcoming them back to our midst.
Mrs. Lucille Amport Feltmeyer, who has been at Deaconess Hospital, Freeport, Ill., as special nurse since returning from Cheyenne, Wyo., is in the army now. Her address is: Lt. Lucille Feltmeyer, N790633, Station Hospital, S.A.A.C.C., San Antonio, Texas. Mrs. Feltmeyer is receiving training at the aviation cadet center. She is at the station only temporarily, and expects to be with the invasion forces ere long.

Frank Emer has purchased Earl Bemis’ house and lots in this village. Mr. Emer states that he does not intend to occupy the premises, but will offer it for rent. Mr. Bemis and family expect to move to Neillsville this week Saturday.
Mrs. Mary Gort, first primary teacher, was a Chippewa Falls the fore part of the week, while her mother, Mrs. Sugars, had an operation on one of her eyes.
Will Ringrose was a business caller at the county seat Tuesday afternoon.
Mrs. Rose Erickson was home from her work at Tomah over Sunday.
