New Lion’s Club (Receives Charter - 1964)
Members of 13 Lions Clubs of the area were present as the Neillsville Lions Club was presented its charter last Saturday night in St. Mary’s hall.
Presenting the charter was Donald Shaurette of Amherst, governor, who gave it to Donald Knight, president of the recently-organized group.
The speaker was Fred Louis of Stevens Point, international counselor. Tom McLean of Nekoosa led in singing of songs, accompanied on the organ by Mrs. Virginia Gassen.
Officers of the Neillsville Club in addition to Knight are: Allen Stibbe, first vice-president; Ron Ziegler, third vice-president; Robert E. Baxter, Secretary; Pete Schultz, treasurer; Willis Strickert, Lion Tamer; Matt Gassen, tail twister; Martin Feuerstein and Robert Horswill, two-year terms as directors; Jim Klein and Glenn Roberts, one-year directors.
Clubs represented included: Amherst, Stevens Point, Thorp, Withee, Black River Falls, Medford, Wisconsin Rapids, Stratford, Pittsville, Wausau, Marshfield, Fall Creek and Vesper.
The Neillsville club meets the second and fourth Thursdays of each month in the merchants Hotel.
