Durbin, Ernestine (5 AUG 1878 - 11 APR 1963)

 

Services were conducted by Rev. Gene Carlson for Mrs. Ernestine Durbin at the Methodist Church at Withee at 3 o’clock on Saturday, April 13.

 

Mrs. Ernestine Durbin, the former Ernestine Schlaser, was born in Keokuk Co., Iowa, on Aug. 5, 1878.  She passed away April 11, 1963 at the age of 84 years, 8 months and 6 days, at Victory Memorial Hospital , Stanley.

 

She was united in marriage to George Edward Durbin Nov. 22, 1899.  To this union was born 11 children, seven of whom are still living: Mrs. Floyd (Orpha) Dick, Harvey, Ill.; Mrs. Felix (Edna) Poznanski, Milwaukee; Elmer, Homer, Howard and Glen, Withee; and Alfred, Owen.  Her husband preceded her in death.  One granddaughter, Marie, lived with her until her marriage to William Kostick.  She leaves one grandchild, three great-grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Ida Beaver of What Cheer, Iowa, one brother, Henry Schlaser, Delta, Iowa,  also two step-children and a host of nieces, nephews and friends who will greatly miss her .  She will always be remembered by her neighbors and friends as a kind and loving neighbor, always ready to lend a helping hand.  She was an active member of the Methodist Church, the Women’s Society of Christian Service and also belonged to the Grandma’s club.

 

Attending the funeral of Mrs. Ernestine Durbin were Henry Schlaser of Delta, Iowa; Mrs. Ida Beaver and Mr. and Mrs. Forest Blaylock and daughter Florence of What Cheer, Iowa; Mrs. Hoard Junkin of Keswick, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Laston Courtney and Mrs. Helen Tullie of Chicago; Mr. and Mrs. Darwin Gruenwald and Bruce, Daryl, Dennis and Darla Durbin of Mukwonago, Wis.; Mr. and Mrs. Donald Poznanski of Milwaukee; Mr. and Mrs. Paul Rossow, Mr. and Mrs. I. Salzwedel and Mrs. Norma Plaman of Rhinelander; Mr. and Mrs. Alex Poznanski, Mrs. Francis Brey, Mrs. Mathilda Fahey, Mr. Harry Stafford of Greenwood; Mrs. Arnold Bakke, Mrs. Eddie Kivikko, and Albert Philips of Curtiss.

 

The pallbearers were Oscar Makinen, Norbert Bruchert, Frank Hendricks, Herb Wehrman, Tracy Hansen, and Frank Kowalski, all of Withee.

 

Flower girls were Mrs. Frank Hendricks, Mrs. Cecil Tormey and Mrs. Tyrni Veurink of Withee.

 

Singers were Mrs. Russell Martinson and Mrs. Harris Johnson, accompanied by Mrs. Herman Rabska at the organ.

 

Funeral arrangements were handled by Hoeper and Kraut Funeral Parlor of Owen, and interment was at Riverside Cemetery.
